They are generally concentrated and hydrophobic, meaning they do not mix very well with water. Due to the volatility of essential oils, applying them onto the skin may not be so easy, and here’s where carrier oils come in. Carrier oils, or otherwise referred to as base oils, do just what their name suggests carrying essential oils onto the skin. They counteract the dissipative nature of essential oils and ensure they get absorbed into the skin. Mists and Sprays

Mists and sprays are specialised bottles used to mix the essential oils before you apply them onto the skin. The process is simple;

You begin by pouring witch-hazel inside the spray bottle and then add a couple of drops of the essential oils. Next, you swirl the bottle to mix the contents and then add distilled water. You then cap the bottle and shake well to combine your new solution. Lastly, you mist the concoction all over your body just after showering and then towel off.


Last but not least, you will need an essential oil diffuser. Diffusers disperse of essential oils in your room of choice. You can get diffusers in many different shapes, sizes, and materials.

The standard ones you may recognise are the candle diffusers. However, for these to work, there needs to be a heat source. If you do not like the idea of heating the room, you could opt for electric or ceramic, reed or electric diffusers. If you wish to go a notch higher, you could opt for ultrasonic diffusers that only use electronic frequencies to disperse the aroma.


It is important to remember that there are several essential items you would need to start an essential oils treatment at home. The best thing about all of this? It is quite inexpensive to get started and simple too! This means you can begin aromatherapy at home sooner than you think.
